A native of Taiwan, Ming-Hui Lin is a versatile cellist and pianist, an enthusiastic chamber musician, and a devoted teacher and coach. She has experienced music of many different cultures and fields and has performed and worked throughout United States, Asia, and Europe. One of Miss Lin’s lifelong goals is to give back to the world through her music and communication skills.

 

Educational Background

Cellist and Pianist Ming-Hui Lin has received degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University (GPD, 07; MM, 05) and the Taipei National University of the Arts (BM, 03). She is currently pursuing degree on Doctor of Musical Arts at Boston University, studying with Leslie Parnas.

 

Professional Experiences

Miss Lin was featured in the 2008 Boston University Admission Booklet as the doctoral program representative.  In year 2008, Miss Lin was invited to give a concert in Germany and was appointed principal cellist of the BU In Cite Festival in Town Hall in New York City. Miss Lin’s piano trio gave a concert on Beethoven Triple Concerto with BU Sinfonietta Orchestra and she has appeared in Taiwan Woman Winter Retreat in New York (North America Chapter) held by Taiwanese Woman Organization. In year 2007, Miss Lin was invited to open the Shie Jih Temple 10th year anniversary celebration concert in New York, which resulted in an interview of her being broadcasted on Chinese American radio station on the same evening of the performance. Miss Lin also performed in UCLA’S Royce Hall as guest solo cellist for Hannolin’s Korean Culture Night ‘07 production of The Forgotten War. 

 

Active in the performance of new music, Miss Lin has appeared as a composition premiere soloist and a chamber musician throughout past years performing Murray Gross’ solo piece Thinking of Lady Yang at Midnight and Chi-Hao Lee’s Cello Concerto to name just a few.  She has also performed in events such as Samuel Burt & C.R. Kasprzyk’s east coast premiere concert project and Pamela Chen’s Spring Silk, where she co-worked with orchestral members of the Silk Road Project and was coached by Bright Sheng. Miss Lin was chosen to play in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra/ Peabody Symphony Orchestra side-by-side concert under Marin Alsop.

 

Teaching Experiences

Ming-Hui has been on the faculty for the non-major cello lessons at Boston University and sectional coach for the BU All Campus Orchestra since 2007.  She has also served as piano and cello instructor at Musikalessons Music Organization and Takelessons Music School in the great Boston area. Currently, Ming-Hui is invited to be the instructor of the cello performance class at the Brookline Adult & Community program through the Brookline High School, starting in the spring semester of 2010.

 

Major Teachers and Master Classes

Miss Lin’s major teachers include Leslie Parnas, Amit Peled, Chu-Chuan Liu, and Victor Shipiller. She is a founding member of New England String Quartet and has performed in solo master classes for Yo-Yo Ma, Richard Aaron, Natasha Brofsky, Yvan Chiffoleau, Steven Pologe, M. Shepps, Alan Stapansky and has been coached in chamber music master classes by the Tokyo Quartet, Peabody Trio, Muir String Quartet, and the Audubon Quartet.
